OUR STORY

After deciding to leave the dairy industry in 1997, Glen and Tanya spent considerable time over the next 12 months researching and debating beef breeds, but couldn’t go past the purity and reliability of the Brahman. Tango Brahmans was registered on the 13th January 1998 and all these years later, it’s a decision we have never regretted!

Our first purchase definitely tested that decision however! Purchasing 2 PTIC cows with heifer calves at foot seemed like the perfect start… until 2 weeks later when we discovered that one cow and the opposite calf had both died! No one said this was going to be easy!

Our first Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale was a disaster! We offered one bull and received zero bids! Luckily the agents were able to sell him after the sale! The many lessons learnt that day still stick with us now!

Fast forward to 2015 and we were forced to reduce our herd numbers from nearly 200 stud breeders to only 28 due to severe drought and the loss of our agistment country. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we were forced to keep the best of the best and re-evaluate our breed objectives and goals moving forward.

After a lengthy family meeting, that learning curve led us to our new focus and breeding objectives:

  • Beef

  • Bone

  • Temperament

  • Quality over quantity

  • Polled genetics

Careful selection of polled females and sires from that date forward, as well as a rigorous selection criteria for our own cattle has brought our herd to where it is today - beefy, polled cattle that we are extremely proud of!
